Diana Murray writes stories and poems for children. She is the author of several forthcoming picture books, including NED THE KNITTING PIRATE: A SALTY YARN (Roaring Brook Press /Macmillan, Winter 2016), CITY SHAPES (Little, Brown, Spring 2016), and GRIMELDA, THE VERY MESSY WITCH (Katherine Tegen Books /HarperCollins, Summer 2016). Diana was awarded the 2010 SCBWI Barbara Karlin Work-in-Progress Grant for a picture book manuscript. She has many poems published and forthcoming in magazines, including Spider, Highlights for Children, Highlights High Five, and Highlights Hello, and received the 2013 SCBWI Magazine Merit Award, as well as the Honor Award, for poetry. Diana is represented by Brianne Johnson at Writers House literary agency. She recently moved from the Bronx to a nearby suburb, where she lives with her husband, two very messy children, and a goldfish named Pickle.
Before writing, Diana Murray spent about twelve years as a graphic designer. Most recently, she worked as the art director at Theory, a fashion company. Her first job (during high school) was working at a sock store called "The Leg Room". Using her employee discount, Diana established quite an impressive sock collection. Her favorite socks were black with a skull and crossbones pattern.
